Chris Paterson
Chris Paterson has won 101 caps for Scotland
Paterson refreshed and refocussed

Scotland record points scorer Chris Paterson is determined to regain his place in time for the 2011 6 nations next year but admits he faces a tough challenge.
The 32-year-old made his first international appearance since suffering a lacerated kidney in a match against Wales earlier this year as a substitute in the team’s 21-17 win against South Africa last month.

During his three months of recuperation and a further three of intense training, Scotland have claimed victories over the Springboks, Samoa, Ireland and twice against Argentina.

But with the 2011 World Cup also on the horizon, Paterson – who can play almost anywhere down the backline – says he is fully fit and raring to go.

“I’m more determined than ever to get back involved and I’ve been bitterly disappointed not to be part of a successful run,” said Paterson.

“The six-month break gave my body a rest and put me in good stead for what’s going to be a massive season.

“The guys in possession are doing well and winning games, so it’s a tough challenge.

“The support when I came off the bench against South Africa was mind-blowing.

“It was such a huge honour, and almost an embarrassment, to receive that, because I played ten minutes or so and I didn’t feel I did enough.”

“The World Cup is a massive target and to play in four is one of the goals I’d like to achieve.

“We’re getting these good results but we can play so much better.

“To be consistent leading into the World Cup is the first thing.”
