But after raising their game to defeat the Springboks, Robinson warned his players they need to start consistently matching the high standards they have set themselves.
“We weren’t at the top of our game and we were lucky in the end to get away with it,” said Robinson.
“We had to work hard throughout and the Samoans played really well. I went up to every Samoan and said how unlucky they were to lose the game.
“But I am delighted that we were able to work out how to win. That’s what we’re here for, to win.
“The impact of the replacements was top drawer because we needed some momentum.
“We did a lot of good work when the bench were on and Ruaridh was behind a lot of it.
“I am happy but there is a lot of hard work that we have to do – it shows where we are as a team.
“There is a bit of inconsistency in our performance at the moment but we’ve got to get it right every time.”
