Richie Vernon
Richie Vernon on the charge for Glasgow Warriors
Vernon determined to make most of second chance

Richie Vernon feared his Scotland career was over before it started after a baptism of fire against New Zealand but is looking to prove his worth after being restored to the starting XV for the Samoa clash.
The Glasgow No.8 endured a tough first Test against the All Blacks in just his fourth Scotland cap – looking out of his depth as they were bulldozed 49-3.

But an injury to Scott MacLeod has reopened the door for the 23-year-old and he is determined to take his chance with both hands.

"I was still concerned about whether I would be picked this week," Vernon said.

“But I was much happier because I put in a good account of myself (against South Africa], so I knew I had a better chance of being involved, especially with Scott's injury.

"But, after New Zealand, I was sure I would not. It was my first experience of playing New Zealand and my first start, and the speed of the game and intensity was something I had not experienced before. I was very disappointed at the way it went.

"So last week I was just happy to get on the bench against South Africa. Then I was determined to do what I could to get another chance and make something of it. I was down, but I still knew that that was where I wanted to be; that is the standard I want to be at."
