Edwards laments rusty Welsh display

Defence coach Shaun Edwards revealed certain players have blown their chance to represent Wales at the 2011 World Cup after failing to defeat Fiji.
Captain Ryan Jones conceded a late penalty which fly-half Seremaia Bai converted with the final kick to lock the game at 16-16, leaving Wales six matches without a victory.

The Pacific Islanders famously sent Wales crashing out of the 2007 World Cup after inflicting a 38-34 defeat, and will face them again in Pool D of next year’s competition.

Warren Gatland’s men finish their autumn clashes against New Zealand and Edwards admits many players have shown a lack of focus which could cost them dearly next year.

"It was a last chance really to look at players before the World Cup, there's no other time to do it," said Edwards.

"Some were rusty and probably they'll look back and think 'I had a chance and I probably didn't take it'.

"It smelt of a team who were very rusty, a lot of guys hadn't played for a month or so and some guys not even playing regular rugby for their regions.

"We're judged as a team and... there's no doubt that as a unit, we didn't come up to our expectations, and the expectations of the Welsh people.

"Obviously turning the ball over was a huge problem for us and yet another try from a turnover, it's what has probably killed us in this series so far.

"But our minds are already on next week if I'm being honest, we know what's coming next Saturday and we're getting ready for that."
