Declan Kidney
Declan Kidney is looking for an improved performance against the All Blacks
Kidney: players deserve another go

Ireland boss Declan Kidney maintains he was right to keep faith with the bulk of the side that lost to world champions South Africa for the clash with New Zealand.
Although veteran half-backs Ronan O’Gara and Peter Stringer impressed against Samoa but have to be content with a place on the bench as Kidney makes only one enforced change – prop Tom Court replaces the injured Tony Buckley – from the team that was edged 23-21 by the Springboks.

And while that performance was far below the standards Kidney expects, he says the players deserve a chance at redemption against the No.1 ranked team.

"We know our error count against South Africa and that's what we've been trying to rectify.

"It's why we've gone with this team. The players deserve another go. Sometimes you must back players and that's what we're doing.

"Jonathan and Peter is a combination that hasn't had time yet, but there are lots of combinations I'd like to try.

"Unfortunately international rugby doesn't allow you to do a lot of experimentation. We've done some of it.

"Peter has 93 caps so I know what he brings to the table. Now it's time to find out new things.
