Jones wary of Aussie attacking threat

Fly-half Stephen Jones admits Wales cannot afford to make any mistakes in the Millennium Stadium against a ruthless Australian outfit.
The Wallabies are ranked second in the world and come into the match having stopped a ten-run losing run against the All Blacks in Hong Kong in their dramatic 26-24 victory.

And despite being down to the bare bones in certain positions, Jones knows Wales need a complete performance from the first minute.

“We’re fully aware of the Australia’s attacking ability. They have a very exciting back line who play a certain style and do it very well”, said Jones.

“We have to be smart and manipulate them. It’s all about concentrating on a style that suits us and making sure we are efficient.

“We can’t be sloppy or turn over ball easily or we will be punished. We have to get our set-phase attack right because that gets you momentum.”

Australia’s main danger man is Jones’ opposite number Quade Cooper.

Both a devastating runner and distributor Cooper is one of the most difficult players to defend against in world rugby and Jones is looking forward to the challenge of going head to head with him.

He said: “He is a quality player. In a lot of senses, he is different to anything else out there.

“His footwork is fantastic, his kicking game is very good and he poses defences a lot of problems.

“His footwork is so good he very rarely gets wrapped up in the tackle and, because of that, he off-loads a lot.

"You very rarely see him die with the ball or go fully into contact with it. He just sees things very early.

"At the back, we've got to make sure we mark as much space as we can. We can't give this guy big chunks of field to aim at because he will make us pay."
