England defence coach Mike Ford refuses to be intimidated by New Zealand
Ford not intimidated by free-scoring All Blacks

England defence coach Mike Ford is confident they can keep a lid on the free-scoring All Blacks who bring in rugby league convert Sonny Bill Williams for the trip to Twickenham.
Despite seeing their 15-game winning run come to an end against Australia in Hong Kong, Graham Henry’s men are still the No.1 ranked team in world rugby and have not at Twickenham to England for eight years.

And if their attacking potency was not dangerous enough Henry has opted to bring in Williams for Conrad Smith at outside centre where he will clash against his former Kiwi rugby league teammate Shontayne Hape.

But Ford refused to be intimidated by New Zealand’s impressive stats going into the game.

“There were three games in the Tri-Nations that produced an average of 77 points and that for me isn't Test rugby.

“Even Saturday, which was a fantastic game, there were still 50 points scored.

“Everyone is talking about how many tries are going to be scored, how quick the rucks are and how exciting it is - but our job defensively is to work out a way to stop that.

“We're pretty confident that we can do that. Our mentality has changed defensively. We have a 'no excuse' mentality. It's never a case of us saying: 'They've just scored one so we'll go back and score one at the other end.”
