Scotland will face off against New Zealand, South Africa and Samoa in consecutive weekends in November anxious to recreate the form that saw them grab a famous 9-8 win over Australia in last year’s corresponding campaign.
And while the league form of Edinburgh and Glasgow has not been too much to write home about this year Vernon is adamant man-for-man the squad are in good shape.
"Both Edinburgh and Glasgow have put in performances for parts of games and just not quite got the results we wanted and I'm sure that was a slight worry for Andy (Robinson],” said Vernon.
“But as individuals guys are playing well and stepping up, and that's important because when you come into the Scotland set-up and guys are playing well for their clubs it lifts the standard so much and intensifies the competition for places.
“I think our performance against Ospreys has been coming for a while. We've done it in bits and pieces, and even in that (Sunday's] game we didn't start very well, but the good thing about this squad is that we've kept our belief.
"We're a young team and sometimes it's just not making the right decisions at key times so putting pressure on ourselves. It's been a big learning curve, but we're really confident with what we've got.
"I also think it's good that that style of game is getting bred right through the whole of Scottish rugby because we've shown how effective it is.”
