England centre Riki Flutey faces a race to be fit for the November internationals after being helped off the field in Wasps' 37-10 home defeat to Northampton Saints with a leg injury.
Fellow Red Rose stars Chris Ashton and Courtney Lawes crossed the whitewash for the Saints as well as Soane Tonga’uiha twice and fly-half Stephen Meyler – who also kicked 12 points.

Ben Jacobs grabbed a consolation try for the London side and Dave Walder added a penalty and a conversion but thoughts soon turned to Flutey who was helped off the pitch before half-time – unable to put any weight on his right leg.

And the 30-year-old isn’t the only one in the wars as Simon Shaw has a calf injury and Joe Simpson has injured his shoulder – leaving England manager Martin Johnson to sweat over the Wasps trio.

“Riki’s pretty sore at the moment,” said Wasps director of rugby Tony Hanks.

“He’ll be assessed by England when he goes into camp with them. Hopefully he won’t be out for too long.

“These things can take a day or two before you learn how bad they are, but he was definitely pretty sore.”

“Simon will also be looked at by England. He had a calf strain on Friday. It was innocuous but he wasn't fit to play. Hopefully it's not long-term.

“And Joe has a sore shoulder. He's being looked at. It was late in the game but whether or not he could carry on we were going to take him off.”
