Flanker Serge Betsen admitted France were tactically out-smarted by England in the 25-17 RBS 6 Nations defeat at Twickenham.
The French back-row which subdued England fly-half Johnny Wilkinson in Paris a year ago struggled to assert themselves as England stretched their unbeaten home record to 19 matches.
And Betsen conceded France found it difficult to counter England's ploy of drafting Sale fly-half Charlie Hodgson to play at centre.
Betsen said: "We cannot be happy with this match because we did not do the things we had worked on in training."
"Johnny played much further back and it was difficult to get to him. There were two No 10s and that was good tactics by England.
"Also, Wilkinson kicked all the penalties while we had two and missed them. That was very important."
But Betsen acknowledged there were more problems than the failure to shackle Wilkinson.
"We must see the video and see what did work and what didn't work. We need to make the last pass better to try and continue our game," he said.
