Ashton: England can win the World Cup

Flying winger Chris Ashton insists there is no reason why England can't triumph at the 2011 World Cup.
The Northampton Saints man was promoted to the England starting XV following a prolific season at club level last term and went on to score a try as England beat Australia 21-20 in Sydney in June.

And Ashton will be hoping to keep the No.11 shirt for the upcoming November Tests against New Zealand, Australia, Samoa and South Africa and has urged his fellow internationals to build on beating the Wallabies in their own backyard in the run up to the World Cup.

“We can build on that win and I don't see why we can't win the World Cup,” Ashton said.

“We'll know a lot more in the autumn. You need to play against the top teams to see where you're at.

“I want to get Northampton Saints to the top of the [Premiership] table and doing well in the Heineken Cup, and then get into autumn internationals with England and start every game.

“We've been together for a year or two, and now we can get onto the right run of form and build up to the World Cup.”
