The 22-year-old has not played for England since the clash with New Zealand in 2008 and has slid down the pecking order for the No. 10 position.

Cipriani is the first to admit a call for next year’s World Cup is unlikely but believes his move to Melbourne will not end his hopes of adding to his seven caps.

“My whole life has been geared towards playing for England and that is still the case,” said Cipriani.

“At the moment I’m not fitting into the coaches’ plans so I want to make sure I can do the best I can to improve myself and sure I get picked.

“The England set-up have got what they want for the World Cup so I’ve got to be selfish.

“I’m going to be playing the best brand of rugby there is and I will be playing against the best there is in Dan Carter, Morne Steyn, Matt Giteau and Quade Cooper and that’s a challenge that excites me.”
