Evans escapes serious injury

Ospreys lock Ian Evans has escaped serious injury after being forced off the field during a Magners League loss to Munster at Thomond Park.
The 25-year-old has had trouble with injuries after missing a year after suffering knee ligament damage in Wales’ loss to New Zealand two years ago only to sit on the sidelines for another three months upon his return with a chest injury while playing for Swansea.

And when he fell awkwardly at a lineout during the 22-10 defeat the worry was that it could be another long spell away from the game.

But Ospreys physio Chris Turner is hopeful Evans will return in time for their trip to Toulon in the Heineken Cup next month after scans proved positive.

"Ian sustained an injury to his left foot and ankle in the Munster game and although he is in a fair bit of discomfort at the moment his scan has shown that the injury is a fairly diffuse issue," Turner said.

"Basically, he's sustained grade one damage to a lot of soft tissues in the foot and ankle, so the prognosis is a lot better than originally feared.

“We hope to see a fairly steep recovery once this acute phase of the healing process starts to settle over the next week or so."
