Wales skipper set for a return to domestic action

Gatland handed boost with skipper Jones back in action

Wales skipper Ryan Jones is set to make his return to competitive action for the Ospreys on Saturday for the first time since suffering a knee injury in the summer Tests.

The No. 8 picked up the injury in the second clash with the All Blacks but despite returning to the field Jones will not captain the side having been stripped of the role for this season.

Fellow Welsh international Alun Wyn Jones will lead the side for the 2010/11 season but his international skipper is expected to be alongside him for the clash with Aironi at the Liberty Stadium.

Ospreys forwards coach Jonathan Humphreys said: “Hopefully he’ll be available for selection this week.

“It’s a significant boost to us to have him back, because we’ve always felt he’s such a big player for the Ospreys.

“We rate his efforts very highly here – he’s one of our hardest-working players on the field.

“He’s a leader, so it’ll be great to have him back in the ranks.”

And the Ospreys have been given more good news this week with Wales second row Ian Evans looking set for an ahead-of-schedule return from injury.

Evans – who has 16 international caps - limped off in the 22-10 defeat against Munster but is expected to be fit for a return for the Toulon clash on October 9.
