But while Moffat admitted the Australian-born stand-off was a class apart he was also quick to point the finger at his own team’s performance.

He said: “With ten minutes to go, I thought if we scored it would be interesting, but overall we made too many mistakes and we need to improve on that.

"We were slow and static and the game of rugby is all about quick ball.

"We need to become sharper and more clinical. You cannot afford to give a side like that a 17-point start. That's what we did and we paid the price."

“We didn't deserve to win the game. We were sloppy and we couldn't build pressure on Cardiff.

"We didn't make a big thing about Dan Parks before the game but he will be good for them. He's a player people should respect because he's got better and better."

In contrast, Glasgow boss Sean Lineen was ecstatic with his side’s 22-19 defeat of Magners League finalists Leinster.

Fly-halves Ruaridh Jackson and Duncan Weir in particular stood out with their performances and Lineen admits he has been give plenty of food for thought.

He said: “They are a great double-act, aren’t they?

“They’re both level-headed lads. They’re both ambitious. What I want them to do now is push each other up the way.”
