Philip Doyle
Philip Doyle took over as Ireland women's coach after Kevin West resigned
Doyle plans to gatecrash England's party

New Ireland women's coach Philip Doyle maintains he has a plan to pull off the biggest shock in World Cup history by defeating hosts England in the opening game.
Doyle – who was assistant coach during the RBS 6 Nations and was in charge for Ireland’s last World Cup campaign – stepped up to the hotseat after Kevin West quit for personal reasons.

While Doyle has been quick to stamp his own mark on proceedings he maintains it has been a case of evolution rather than revolution from the systems West put in place.

And he has already got his squad working towards a specific gameplan with a view to downing co-favourites England on August 20.

He said: “Now I have picked my 26 I have a team in my head, I just have to make sure they are fully prepared.

“Anytime you face England in any sport it is a fantastic occasion and this will be no different.

“It is the opening game of the World Cup against the co-favourites but we have a plan we have been working towards.

“We are not about to go in there and wave the white flag. We have done a lot of analysis and I feel we have a gameplan that can help make us compete.

“We have done an awful lot of work in a very short space of time before the World Cup.

“We have not tired to reinvent the wheel. Kevin put a lot of get things in place so there was no point in ripping it all up but there’s always areas we can improve on.

“The set piece can always be stronger and in particular we need to work on the defence which has been our main focus over the last few camps.”
