Luger ready for tough test
13 February 2003, 4:56 pm
Dan Luger is prepared for one of the toughest tests in world rugby when he lines up against RBS 6 Nations champions France at Twickenham on Saturday.
England wing Luger returns to the Test arena after just five domestic comeback games following knee surgery last year.

And as far as the 28-year-old is concerned, there could be no greater challenge than facing the wonderfully unpredictable French.

"Their back line, together with New Zealand's, is probably the hardest to play against," said Luger, scorer of 19 tries in 27 Tests.

"They ask a lot of questions, but it is a challenge that I am looking forward to."

Despite harbouring understandable fears about French capabilities with ball in hand, England will undoubtedly pose a few threats of their own.

Clive Woodward has selected a back division bursting with game-breaking prowess.
Luger, his fellow wing Ben Cohen and centre Will Greenwood have scored 59 tries between them from a combined total of 81 Tests.

Add creative playmakers Jonny Wilkinson and Charlie Hodgson, playing together for the first time in an England starting XV, to the mix and Woodward's men will not be short of attacking options.

"I've got some great players around me, which hopefully makes my job a bit easier," added Luger.

"It's great playing for England, because you get to express yourself - you are not scared to go out there and try things.

"But it all starts with the forwards, who've been on fantastic form for as long as I can remember. They win loads of ball, and make the job a lot easier for the guys behind the pack."
