Hook happy with decision to miss New Zealand tour

Hook plans his return to action

Wales centre James Hook maintains he took the right decision to miss Wales' summer tour and is now targeting a return to action by September with the Ospreys.

Hook opted to go under the knife to fix a long-term shoulder problem before Warren Gatland’s side toured New Zealand.

And now the 25-year-old is confident he can be firing on all cylinders in time for the Ospreys’ October Heineken Cup encounters and Wales’ autumn internationals.

He said: “I will miss the first few games of the season.

“From what they are telling me, I am looking at the end of September before I will be able to play, which isn't so bad.

“If I’d gone to New Zealand, I’d only now be looking at having the op and I’d probably be talking about October or even November.

“The Heineken Cup will be on us before we know it - in the second weekend of October - and I would like to be able to get a few games under my belt before then and get match-fit in time for the first one. That has to be the target.

“But, with a World Cup coming up next year, it’s important to be fresh for that if I want to be in contention so the timing of the op is probably right for me all ways.”
