Dan Biggar
Dan Biggar could make his first start against one of the world's top sides
Wales legend Davies backs Dan for the big time

Former Wales and Lions outside half Gareth Davies insists Dan Biggar should start the second Test in New Zealand, regardless of the fitness of regular No 10 Stephen Jones.
Scarlets star Jones has been rated 50-50 for Saturday’s clash in Hamilton after sustaining a thumb injury in last week’s 42-9 defeat in Dunedin.

Biggar, 20, has long been championed as the successor to Jones and has impressed for Magners League champions Ospreys over the past two seasons.

And Davies admits the experience of taking on the All Blacks in their back yard could prove crucial if Biggar is called upon at next year’s World Cup in New Zealand.

“You don’t wish an injury on anyone but it probably would be a good thing if Dan played anyway,” said Davies. “He is going to be around for a while so I would be inclined to pick him.

“The purpose of this tour is to benchmark yourself against the world’s best but also to see if young players like Biggar can cope at the highest level.

“Dan may be pitched in against the All Blacks and South Africa next year in the World Cup and he now needs that exposure.

“And there is no more stringent test than New Zealand on their own patch.”
