Jonny Wilkinson
Jonny Wilkinson is battling to make the first Test
Aussie Cooper wants to face Wilkinson again

If Jonny Wilkinson doesn't recover in time for the first Test Down Under then there will be no-one more disappointed than his potential opposite number - Wallabies sensation Quade Cooper.
In many ways the fly-halves could not appear to be more of a chalk-and-cheese combination in terms of style.

31-year-old Wilkinson is renowned for both his kicking and defence while Cooper made the most off-loads, most line breaks and gained the most metres of any Australian in the Super 14 this year but does miss the odd tackle.

But it was Wilkinson who Cooper worshipped growing up in New Zealand before moving to Australia – where it is normally treason to even praise a Pom – and the 22-year-old would be devastated to miss a rematch of their clash during the autumn internationals.

He said: “Growing up I used to idolise Jonny Wilkinson and I used to try and kick just like him.

“That night in 2003 was a hard game to watch but it also showed what a remarkable player he is.

“It was phenomenal and all the more amazing that he is still going despite everything he has been through.

“When I was young I used to go into my backyard and pretend to kick that drop goal again and again to win the World Cup final.

“Playing against him last November was the highlight of my career and I would love to get another opportunity on home soil.”
