A New Zealand native who plied his trade for Linwood and Canterbury before making the switch to Europe, Griffen was handed his Italy debut in the 2004 Six Nations against England after spending more than five years playing in the Super 10. Missed the World Cup qualifying match against Portugal because of appendicitis.
