After a slow start to the season Shanklin has been back to his abrasive self in recent weeks, forming a formidable centre partnership with Jamie Roberts at the Blues. Born in Harrow, Shanklin chose to follow in the footsteps of father Jim by representing Wales and has proved a key figure in the Grand Slam triumphs of 2005 and 2008. He was a Lions tourist to New Zealand in 2005 and will have aspirations to tour South Africa this summer. Wales have never lost an RBS 6 Nations match where Shanklin has started alongside Gavin Henson in the centre.
