Marshall: Wales capable of summer scalp

Former New Zealand international Justin Marshall has backed Wales to cause a stir this summer and ruffle the feathers of South Africa and the All Blacks.
Warren Gatland’s troops host South Africa on June 5 before travelling to New Zealand for two Tests in Dunedin and Hamilton.
Wales’ only victory over the Springboks came way back in 1999 while the last time they got one over the All Blacks was over 50 years ago.

But Marshall – who won 81 caps for New Zealand – believes Wales have what it takes to ignore history and pull of a scalp this summer.

“South Africa are a great team, they are the current world champions and we all know what pride they take in that and in the way they play,” said Marshall.

“But in Cardiff Wales are more than capable of beating the Springboks and New Zealand won’t be super-confident either – they will be slightly unsettled.

“Wales can put players out there that are key decision-makers and they have got a couple of people that can change a game.

“They are more than capable of beating any of the teams put in front of them this summer – they need to go out there and believe.”
