Wales and Ospreys winger Shane Williams insists the Magners League's new playoff system has added extra spice to the season run-in.
The inaugural playoffs are set to kick off after this weekend’s final round of matches with the Ospreys destined for a home semi final if they defeat the Dragons on Friday.
And with Glasgow Warriors, Munster, Cardiff Blues and Edinburgh still battling for the final two playoff spots behind the Ospreys and runaway leaders Leinster, Williams admits the inclusion of the playoffs has taken the season to the wire.
“The league has got an added edge all of a sudden,” said Williams.
“What can happen in leagues when a team has won the title with three or four games to go, is the other sides haven’t got anything to play for.
“But this year you’ve got the likes of the Blues playing well at the moment and trying to get in the top four.
“It’s obviously been a massive success in the Guinness Premiership and it’s looking very successful here as well.”
