The Wales coach will be on hand at Adams Park to eye up potential players for his side’s summer Tests against South Africa and New Zealand.

And despite his happy memories and ties to the Blues’ opponents Gatland insists a Welsh victory is vital, and achievable.

“ I went through fantastic times with Wasps, but, from a Welsh and personal point of view, I really want the Blues to do well,” said Gatland. “I hope they win.

“I think it’s important for Welsh rugby that the Blues do well and I sincerely hope they do.

“I think it will be a fantastic game of rugby and I’m looking forward to it myself.

“I’m going there, sitting on halfway. It’s important, not just for the regions, but for Welsh rugby, that we do get some silverware in the cupboard.”
