The Cardiff-bound star carried on his kicking form from the RBS 6 Nations for Scotland, including four drop goals, to give him a personal haul of 20 points.

But the home side didn’t get off to the best of starts and produced an error-strewn first 40 minutes in which they fell behind when deep in Ulster’s 22 just three minutes in, a break-down at a ruck allowed visiting scrum-half Paul Marshall to hack and chase for an unconverted try.

Glasgow responded after 12 minutes when Parks kicked his first penalty but it stayed 5-3 up until the break.

Glasgow started the second half much better and Ulster found themselves under constant pressure which ended with a Parks drop goal five minutes later.

But their slender lead lasted a mere four minutes before Ian Humphreys restored Ulster’s lead and then increased it with back-to-back penalties.

Parks then got Glasgow back in front with a penalty and a drop goal before they scored their first try of the night through Graeme Morrison which Parks converted.

Two more Parks drop goals seemed to finally have killed off the visitors but in the final minute Ulster’s Jamie Smith broke through some tame tackling down the right to narrow the deficit.

Despite holding out for the win, Warriors captain Al Kellock warned his side they might not be so lucky next time out.

He said: “We were fairly poor in the first half, but we came out in the second half and there was a real fear of losing.

“We will not get away with being as poor in our remaining games.”
