Casson hails England Under-20 spirit

Centre Tom Casson believes England Under-20's strong finish to this year's RBS 6 Nations can only bode well for June's Junior World Championship in Argentina.
Mark Mapletoft’s side started the tournament with a resounding 41-14 victory before returning from Italy with a 16-10 win under their belts, but then lost 25-10 to eventual winners Ireland at Gloucester.

Despite this setback, England recovered well and finished strongly, downing Scotland 27-6 and France 47-33 away from home, leaving Quins-bound Casson to wonder what might have been if the competition had longer to run.

He said: “We were pleased with the second place finish in the Six Nations but we felt that we only really started to click at the end of the tournament.

“I think the results against Scotland and France showed that so while we were pleased we were also a bit frustrated that we couldn’t carry on that good form as it seemed to come to an abrupt end at the wrong time.

“But everything is looking good now for the World Cup in June. The confidence is high and everyone is really excited at the prospect of the competition off the back of a good end to the Six Nations.

“The spirit in the squad is excellent and the depth we have is really good too. We have a number of excellent players we can call on at any time and I am sure they will be ready to step up when needed.

“Everyone is confident ahead of the World Cup and I am sure we will do well in Argentina and the lads can’t wait to get out there now.”
