Cipriani was selected this week alongside Wasps teammate Paul Sackey as part of the Barbarians team to face England in the MasterCard Trophy on May 30 in what could be his last game on British soil for some time.

Macqueen has persuaded Cipriani to leave Adams Park – where he has been used as both a fly-half and full-back – to head Down Under for the inaugural Super 15 season after being ignored by the England management for the 2010 RBS 6 Nations.

The 1999 World Cup winning coach says no player will be pigeon holed in a single position and that means Cipriani could form a tantalising midfield partnership with powerhouse Stirling Morlock.

Speaking to the Rugby Paper, MacQueen said: “Danny is incredibly gifted and I believe he could play at inside centre just as easily as he could at five eighth (fly-half).

“He has got the skillset to thrive at inside centre – in the Super 14 you need to be an excellent distributor and have the pace to break the line which he has.

“Him and Stirling together would be some combination. But nothing has been decided yet.

“We are not looking at players playing in particular positions at this early stage. We will see how the team evolves when we come together for the first training camp.

“We want the players to have their input and the team to take shape by itself.

“Danny will learn so much out here. The game is faster out here which put the emphasis on improving his technique.

“He agreed to come out here because he wants that challenge. The fact he is prepared to forgo his international career temporarily and turn down much bigger offers than he could have received in Europe speaks volumes about his personality.”
