Hooker Davies to spread his wings at the Ospreys

Former Wales hooker Mefin Davies says he can't wait to develop the next generation of front-row talent after agreeing to join the Ospreys from Leicester.
Davies links up with coaches Scott Johnson and Andrew Hore with whom he won the 2005 RBS 6 Nations at the Liberty Stadium.

Although there are plenty of hookers competing for the No.2 shirt including Wales internationals Huw Bennett and Richie Hibbard, 37-year-old Davies will also act as a mentor to some of the Ospreys up-and-coming front-rowers.

And Davies is relishing the opportunity to pass on the experience that have seen him accumulate 39 Wales caps in a long playing career.

He said: “All my best work has been done over the years when I’ve been working with young guys who are keen to learn.

“I’ve no doubt that there will be plenty of opportunities for me to help with player development while I’m here.

“There are some good young front row players coming through at the Ospreys that I’m looking forward to working with.

“I’m coming home to Wales and really looking forward to it. It’s a great opportunity that has come at the right time for me. It’s a good move for me rugby-wise, and personally it makes sense.

“I’m looking forward to working again with the likes of Scott Johnson and Andrew Hore who have been inspirational to me in the past. I’ve had a good spell at Leicester and I’ve really enjoyed my rugby, particularly this season, so I’ll have mixed emotions about moving on.”
