England skipper to return sooner rather than later

Saracens insist Borthwick will be back - 'soon'

Saracens have quashed reports England captain Steve Borthwick's knee injury will rule him out of the summer tour to Australia.

Borthwick sat out the final match of the RBS 6 Nations against France with the injury he picked up in the draw with Scotland.

He will also miss Sarries’ Guinness Premiership clash with Newcastle this weekend but a statement on the club website intimated the 30-year-old will return sooner rather than later.

The statement said: “Steve Borthwick sustained an injury to his left knee while playing for England against Scotland in the Six Nations.

“After meeting with the Saracens and England medical team, the second-row is currently working hard on his rehabilitation programme.

“His progress is being constantly monitored and he hopes to return to first team action with Saracens soon.”
