Johnson says England need to be slicker

England boss Martin Johnson feels his side deserved to win the Calcutta Cup at Murrayfield after their hard-fought 15-15 draw.
It was a turgid match for the majority of the 80 minutes but Johnson believes that his side should have come away victorious.

A win would have given his side an outside  chance of winning the RBS Six Nations Championship next Saturday against France although Johnson admits England lacked a clinical edge agianst Scotland.

He said: “I think we should have won the game. I think we had pressure at the end of the game far more than they did.

“They did have a big chance when the ball hit the post but I felt we should have put the game away.”

"I don't know what to feel really, I thought the game lacked tempo generally with a lot of penalties, a lot of stop-start.

"Obviously the injury to Ugo was a big pause and unavoidable but we just couldn't maintain tempo, particularly in the first half.

"I thought the effort was good, we just need to be that bit slicker.”

England captain Steve Borthwick agreed and added that coming to Murrayfield was always going to be difficult.

He said: “It's frustrating for both sides and a kind of empty result.

"I'm very proud of the effort of the guys and we had chances to win but didn't take them.”
