Phillips raring to go for Wales

He may have only played 40 minutes of competitive rugby since October but Lions number nine Mike Phillips insists he's raring to go against the French.

Phillips played 40 minutes for the Ospreys against Connacht last Sunday, prompting Wales boss Warren Gatland to pick him ahead of fit-again Sale scrum-half Dwayne Peel.

The 27-year-old has been named on the replacement’s bench as back-up to Cardiff scrum-half Richard Rees but is expected to get some game-time at the Millennium Stadium.

Phillips underwent surgery after tearing ankle ligaments in the Ospreys' Heineken Cup clash against Clermont Auvergne four months ago.

Injury forced him to miss the autumn internationals and the start of the RBS 6 Nations championship, meaning he has not played for Wales since the clash with Ireland in Cardiff last March.

"I'm very confident in my fitness and just really excited to be back in the squad and can't wait to be a part of it again," said Phillips.

"I'm just chuffed to be part of the squad and if I'm called upon I'm going to give it 110%."
