Centurion Hayes eyes 2011 World Cup

Veteran Irish prop John Hayes is targeting the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand as he prepares to earn his 100th cap against England at Twickenham at the weekend.

At 36, many would have expected Hayes to have hung up his sizeable boots by now – but after becoming Ireland’s first centurion – the self-styled ‘Bull has other ideas.

"I feel as good as I have ever done,” said the Munster forward. “If I stay injury-free I do not see why I should not continue playing.

"I have been lucky with injury when I look around at some of my team-mates."

Hayes highlights last year’s RBS 6 Nations Grand Slam as the highlights of his career to date – but as plans to run out at Twickenham – the giant prop is looking forwards and not backwards.

"The obvious high was last year winning the Grand Slam," said Hayes.

"My first cap was a huge honour and there have been lots of great one-off victories, but the Grand Slam was the best."
