But with a tough clash with Ireland to come next up and a failure to turn territory into points against Italy, Ponsford has warned her side they need to develop a ruthless streak – and quickly.

“It was great to get another win and it was good for us because we got to play some players who hadn’t played against Wales last time out,” said Ponsford.

“But it wasn’t the performance that we might have liked because we didn’t convert all the chances we would have liked.

“There are definitely things we need to improve from the game and we will need to do that before the game against Ireland.

“I didn’t need to give the girls a telling off because they were disappointed too. They knew that we had a lot of pressure and didn’t convert it into tries.”
