Warren Gatland
Wales boss wants improved peformance against the Scots
Back to basics urges Gatland.

Boss Warren Gatland insists his side need to keep it simple against Scotland on Saturday if Wales are get their RBS 6 Nations campaign off and running.
The New Zealander has been quick to point out his side’s shortcomings from last Saturday’s 30-17 defeat against England – singling out the lineout for a verbal bashing.

Wales have not lost against the Scots for eight years with the visitors also boasting the unenviable away record of just three wins – two of which were in Italy - from their last 25 Six Nations clashes.

But Gatland has warned his side that if they don’t address their England errors then they will find it hard to extend the Scots’ dismal run.

“We were happy with our scrum, which got us back into the game, but the lineout was disappointing,' said Gatland.

“With only six out of 11 (takes) from that (lineout) phase, it didn't help us to set in place a platform to get backs like Jamie Roberts into the game.

“We have to be a lot stronger there. We also have to try to keep the ball more and play through phases, because every time we went past fourth phase against England we ended with a positive result of a try, a penalty or a line-break.

“So we have stressed how important it is to keep the ball and play with an intensity to put Scotland under pressure.”
