Cusiter says Parks deserves his chance

Scotland captain Chris Cusiter has backed the returning Dan Parks to continue his renaissance against Wales this Saturday after replacing Phil Godman in the fly-half berth .
The Glasgow Warriors stand-off will be making his first international appearance after 14 months in the international wilderness and his club team mate believes that he can carry his impressive club form into the Millennium Stadium encounter.

Parks and Cusiter, who made their debuts together in this fixture in 2004, have been in flying form for Glasgow all season and their half-back combination has been crucial in propelling them to the top of the Magners League.

Cusiter said: “He's been playing really well for Glasgow. He's scored a lot of points for us from his boot in the Magners League.

"This is the Six Nations and it's a step up. He thoroughly deserves his opportunity. It's up to him to perform and I'm quite sure he will.

"We've both come a long way since then. It was a good six years ago and we've both got a lot more experience under our belts.

"To be starting a game is always brilliant for Scotland and it's a real privilege to be playing down at the Millennium Stadium."

Cusiter added that the squad had not held back in the assessment of their performance against France and will be stronger as a result.

He said: “We had a good, honest session and we attempted to identify what had gone wrong and move on from that.

"We're going to Wales, different team, different tactics, and we've been working hard this week to put things right.

"You don't get many opportunities in the Six Nations and we've got to do our best in every one."

Meanwhile, Wales Head Coach Warren Gatland has questioned the sanity of his Scottish counterpart Andy Robinson after the former England Coach refused to allow the Millennium Stadium roof to be closed for the game.

Both sides must agree if the roof is to be shut but Robinson has insisted that he wants the match to be open to the elements whatever the conditions.

But Cusiter denied this was a tactical move and insisted that they wanted to play attacking rugby.

“If you look at the style of game that Scotland want to play then it wouldn't make sense if we want wet conditions," said Cusiter.

"We don't have the same game plan as last week, that's for sure."

"You'll see a few differences but we still want to go out and attack and score tries and our focus hasn't changed from that."
