Under-20 coach Mapletoft wants to keep momentum despite changes.

Head coach Mark Mapletoft has laid down the gauntlet to his new-look England Under-20 side to pick up where they left off against Wales when they travel to Italy on Friday night.
England overturned a halftime deficit to thrash Wales 30-17 with a devastating attacking second-half performance in Kingsholm last Friday night – but has not stopped Mapletoft making six changes to his starting XV.

Winger Jonny May, who scored a try against the Welsh after coming off the bench, will line up on the wing while there’s a brand new centre combination in London Irish’s Jonathan Joesph and Saracens’ Tom Casson.

There’s also a new lock pairing in Danny Wright and Charlie Matthews while Jackson Wray replaces Alex Gray who is serving a two-week suspension for his red card for stamping against Wales.

Mapletoft has also had to content with six players returning to their clubs for a weekend of Premiership side as he prepares to face an Italy side still licking their wounds from a 39-0 thrashing against Italy.

Yet despite that result and the new faces in XV, Mapletoft says his team cannot rest on their laurels heading out to Italy.

He said: “We've had a tough time against Italy recently and I'm sure they'll be smarting from their defeat in Ireland.”

“It's challenging for us but we've had a lot of guys involved in our camps so far and they'll be up to speed with what we're trying to do and the way we want to play.”
