But the former England international is adamant he is now a better coach following a spell at Edinburgh, while on his return to the Test scene Robinson led Scotland to their first win over Australia for 27 years.

“I understand myself, what my core values are and what I stand for,” said Robinson.

“I want to give the squad a clear direction and make it obvious what we want to achieve.

“Winning gives you confidence and an extra spring in your step.

“What we have at the moment is competition for places and that was underlined out on Tuesday with a training session that was excellent.

“There are players that are really pushing to be in that starting XV. That is what raises the standards.”
