The 24-year-old injured his knee playing for the French club at the weekend, meaning Johnson was forced to wait for news of Haskell’s scan on Tuesday ahead of rethinking his selection for England’s Six Nations opener against Wales on February 6.

Haskell will return to light training later this week and will be fit to face the Welsh at Twickenham a week ob Saturday.

Northampton wing Chris Ashton and Leicester scrum-half Ben Youngs returned home on Tuesday from England’s training camp in Portugal, meaning both will be available for their clubs this weekend.

Meanwhile, Sale and England scrum-half Richard Wigglesworth has agreed to join Saracens in time for next season.

The 26-year-old has five Test caps but has not played for England since 2008 having fallen down the pecking order below Danny Care and Paul Hodgson.
