Sale head coach Kingsley Jones has demanded that Wales head coach Warren Gatland explain the real reason behind Dwayne Peel's omission from his RBS 6 Nations squad.
The 28-year-old scrum-half was left out of Gatland’s 35-man squad last week after suffering a groin strain during the Shark’s Heineken Cup loss to Cardiff on January 16.
However Jones is adamant the decision to leave out Peel was made well before then and admitted he wants the truth regarding the issue to come out.
“He needs to tell Dwayne if it’s a form issue, what he has to improve and why he is not in team, but don’t use Sale or injuries as an excuse,” said Jones.
“To be honest, hooker Matthew Rees hasn’t played for three months because of a groin injury and outside-half Stephen Jones hasn’t since New Year’s Eve because of a shoulder knock but they are both in the Wales squad.
“Read into that what you want. Of course, Dwayne didn’t help himself in terms of selection by getting injured at the Blues, but, come on, let’s have the real reason why he’s not in the Wales squad.
“If they don’t think he’s good enough, that’s their prerogative, but just come out and say it.”
