Nick Easter believes under-fire skipper Steve Borthwick is the right man to lead England into the RBS 6 Nations Championship.
The Harlequins No.8 has been linked with the England captaincy while manager Martin Johnson has yet to confirm who will take the job for the RBS 6 Nations opener against Wales at Twickenham.
Saracens lock Borthwick has been skipper in every game under Johnson's leadership and Easter believes that arrangement should be maintained.
"I would give Steve my backing for the captaincy," said Easter. "He is a tremendous captain. He brings so much intensity and professionalism to every training session.
"Steve played some of his best rugby for England in the last two games against Argentina and New Zealand.
"He has been captaining Sarries well this season. They've been there or thereabouts at the top of the league and he's a natural leader. When he says something, it isn't just for the sake of it."
