Geraghty targets England recall
18 January 2010, 8:32 am
By Sportsbeat
England's forgotten man Shane Geraghty has vowed to prove Martin Johnson wrong for Northampton during February after being snubbed for next month's RBS 6 Nations.
The former London Irish utility back, who played a pivotal role in Northampton’s 34-0 hammering of sorry Perpignan on Sunday in the Heineken Cup, insists he’s still dreaming of a starring role for England at the World Cup in 2011.

To realise this dream, Geraghty, who started against Australia and Argentina in the autumn internationals at Twickenham before being dropped to the England Saxons last week, knows he must wrestle back the number 12 jersey from the returning Riki Flutey.

Northampton scored tries through Chris Ashton, Phil Dowson, Lee Dickson and a last-gasp bonus point score from Jon Clarke against Perpignan, meaning Northampton are still in contention of topping Pool One ahead of their final group match against Magners League champions Munster at Thomond Park next weekend.

"I am desperate to play some kind of role in the Six Nations,” said Geraghty. “The World Cup is at the end of next year and there are so many guys keen to grab places.

"It will happen if I keep performing my best for Saints. The move here has worked out better than I ever could have imagined.

"I always thought this club had so much potential and now it is happening.

"Some people will have been surprised by our results but we're not. We don't intend to fade away in the coming months."

Meanwhile, fellow Guinness Premiership outfit Harlequins suffered a heavy defeat on Sunday as Toulouse booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Heineken Cup with a merciless attacking display.
