Bearman curses his luck

Warren Gatland must be cursing his luck at present after Dragons back-row forward Joe Bearman became the latest Welsh injury victim this week.

The 30-year-old Cornishman, who qualifies for Wales after serving a three-year residency period, has damaged an adductor muscle and might require an operation.

Bearman was outstanding for the Dragons against Biarritz last month in the Heineken Cup and was tipped to be included in Gatland’s newlook RBS 6 Nations squad for their opener against England at Twickenham on February 6.

It is a secondary blow for Bearman in just a matter of months after a groin injury scuppered his chances of appearing for Wales during the autumn internationals in November.

“It looks as though I’ve ripped the muscle away,” said Bearman. “I’ve got no idea when I’ll be able to play again.”
