Rees aims to come back better than ever

England flanker Tom Rees insists he intends to be first choice for club and country before the season is out.
No return date has yet been set for Rees after the London Wasps flanker was recently forced to have a secondary operation on the shoulder he damaged last April.

Rees, who was appointed London Wasps skipper in the summer, has seen veteran Frenchman Serge Betsen take his place for club and Lewis Moody take the England number seven jersey for country.

But despite being a frustrated spectator in recent weeks – Rees intends to make up for lost time as soon as he’s passed fit to return to action.

“My aspirations are still to be one of the best players in the world,” said Rees.

“Serge Betsen sets a minimum standard for London Wasps that I have to reach to ultimately be where I want to be, which is first-choice.

“The same applies for Lewis Moody and Steffon Armitage for England. These guys set such high standards that it’s a great thing for me to be aiming towards.

“If anyone wonders what I’ve been doing, they can have a look in the gym and see I am working hard to get myself ready.”
