Byrne targets England at Twickenham

British Lion Lee Byrne is desperate to win back his international number 15 jersey for Wales' big RBS 6 Nations kick-off against England at Twickenham on February 6.

The Ospreys full-back has suffered a nightmare back-end to 2009, missing out on Wales’ entire autumn international programme after suffering a foot injury back in September.

The 28-year-old returned to competitive action for the Ospreys last month but admits he faces a race against time to win over Wales boss Warren Gatland ahead of February 6.

“My first goal in 2010 is to stay injury free,” said Byrne. “It is perfect timing to be back with the Six Nations coming up.

“We’ve got some big games coming up in the Six Nations and they’re the games you want to be playing in.

“If selected I want to put down another marker in the Wales shirt and I want and need a run of games to get back their fitness.

“But I can’t look ahead to the England match just yet as the Ospreys have some massive games on the horizon. After that then hopefully, if selected, I can concentrate on Twickenham.”
