Geraghty keen on England comeback
12 January 2010, 8:14 am

Riki Flutey may be back but Northampton's Shane Geraghty insists he's the answer to England boss Martin Johnson's number 12 conundrum during next month's RBS 6 Nations.
The 23-year-old started against Australia and Argentina during the autumn internationals but was controversially snubbed by Johnson for the final test against New Zealand.

Geraghty, who moved from London Irish to Northampton in the summer, has been in sparkling form for his club-side this season but like many has struggled to transfer those performances to the international stage.

Brive centre Flutey, who toured with the British Lions in the summer, is almost certain to be handed the 12 jersey for England’s Six Nations kick-off against Wales on February 6 at Twickenham.

But Geraghty has promised not to be fazed in an England shirt this time around should he be given the nod by Johnson.

“In the first two games I didn’t play my style of rugby,” said Geraghty. “Mentally I went into the games not trying to do too much and worried about things instead of just backing my instinct, which is when I play best.

“I have learned the hard way you need to stick to your own game. I have played for England before but it seemed for the people watching England this time, every little detail and decision you made was critiqued.

“An option you took might have been a good one but with England if you don’t the perfectly correct decision then people get on your back.”
