Simon Shaw and Paul Sackey put their hands up for selection into Martin Johnson's England squad for the RBS Six Nations with outstanding performances in Wasps' 24-22 win against Leicester.
Johnson will be licking his lips at the return to form of the Wasps pair, having had Shaw available for only the last autumn test against New Zealand, while Sackey missed the entire series following his horror leg break last season.
Sackey was at his devastating best for Wasps’ opening try, while second-half scores from Steve Kefu and the boot of Dave Walder secured the win for Wasps.
Wasps head coach Tony Hanks said: “It was great to see Paul Sackey doing what he does best, and I am very pleased with his intent.
“Simon Shaw was immense, not least the way he commanded the restarts. He was one of a number of guys who stepped up because, had we lost this one, we would have slipped back to mid-table.”
Meanwhile, Wales wing Tom James scored two tries upon his return to club rugby in Cardiff Blues’ 20-9 win against Connacht.
And full-back Jason Tovey’s performance for the Dragons will have caught the eye of Wales head coach Warren Gatland as his incisive running and kicking helped his side beat a second-string Leinster 30-14 at Rodney Parade.
