Halfpenny on brink of return

Wales wing Leigh Halfpenny is set to return from injury in Cardiff Blues' pre-season friendly at home to Northampton Saints on Friday.

The three-quarter had a stunning breakthrough season last year, but saw his Lions tour first delayed then cut short by a thigh injury.

"I expect Halfpenny and (Wales prop) John Yapp back," Blues coach Dai Young told BBC Sport Wales.

"[Lions] Jamie Roberts and Andy Powell will come back later."

The Blues' other 2009 Lions - Gethin Jenkins, Tom Shanklin and Martyn Williams - are still out injured, along with Wales wing Tom James.
