Moffat calls on players to repeat history
24 July 2009, 4:02 pm
By Rob Barnett
Edinburgh head coach Rob Moffat has challenged his players to repeat their historic victory in France when they open their Heineken Cup campaign in Paris.
Edinburgh face Stade Francais Paris on October 10 before hosting Ulster and playing Bath back-to-back in their subsequent group games.

The match - which could see Edinburgh take on former favourites and Scotland internationals Simon Taylor and Hugo Southwell - offers the opportunity to build on last season's success on French soil.

Edinburgh won 13-6 in Castres in October with the help of Mark Robertson's try and Moffat has urged his players to believe they can come away from France victorious again.

"It's important you get off to a good start in Europe, which we didn't manage last year," Moffat said.

"But what we did achieve last season was an away win in France, so we have to target a repeat when we play Stade Francais in October and that would set us up nicely for our opening home game against Ulster.

"Potentially we could catch up with Hugo and Simon when we travel to Paris so that will add a bit of spice to that tie too."

Moffat believes Edinburgh can reach the knockout stages of the Heineken Cup and mount a challenge for the Magners League.

"That has to be our objective," he said. "Of course a lot has to go in our favour for that to be achieved, but we must aim to improve our performances."
