The 30-year-old begins the forthcoming season as the Blues' first choice scrum half following his move from Gloucester and is aiming to add more silverware to the cupboards at the new City of Cardiff stadium.

Cooper told the Welsh Rugby Union official website: "There is definitely the quality to win something else this season.

“We want to be winning as many trophies as we can. But consistency is going to be the key for us because we didn't do that well in the Magners League.

"If there is one side in Wales, I wanted to play for it was the Blues. You just have to look at the form they showed last season and this is the place to be. There isn't anywhere better to be at the moment."

The scrum-half has been involved in Wales' Grand Slam side in 2005 and 2008, and is hoping a settled spell with Cardiff can contribute to more playing time for his country.

Cooper added: “I am as competitive as ever and I want to be wearing the No 9 shirt for Wales. I will be busting my gut to make that position my own.”
